Otoplasty-When should I have my child’s ears “pinned back”?
When is Ear Surgery right for my child?
Parents often inquire-“When should I have my child’s ears pinned back?” Children are not uncommonly born with overly prominent ears that project away from the sides of their heads and often attract unwanted attention from school friends. As children’s ears reach approximately 80% or more of their adult size by the age of 5 years old, it is typically felt to be safe to consider surgical correction at this time.
One of the prime motivations most parents have in considering correction of a child’s prominent ears is to hopefully avoid unkind comments from their small friends. The seemingly harmless “Dumbo” remarks that other children blurt out can begin to take their toll on a small child’s self image and esteem. I have rarely seen any young girl present for otoplasty who did not wear her hair style to conceal her overly prominent ears. Little boys unfortunately do not have this option; they commonly walk in with stocking caps.
As these childhood taunts begin at a very young age, most physicians feel it is desirable to consider otoplasty around the age of 5 or 6 if the problem is of major significance. A child’s perception of themselves or their self image begins to take shape quite early. A good self esteem can help a child be more outgoing, assertive, and eager to participate in youth activities. Poor self esteem can have just the opposite effect.
Prominent ears are usually the result of congenitally overly developed or misshaped ear cartilage. At the heart of the otoplasty is the alteration and reshaping of the abnormal ear cartilage. Most techniques involve weakening and suturing the cartilage from an inconspicuous posterior ear approach. This technique usually easily conceals any surgical scars. Post operatively patients often are asked to wear protective compression garment that resemble sweat bands for a period of 2-4 weeks following the surgery.
Although, corrective otoplasty is not a must for every child with prominent ears for many – it is a liberating experience. No procedure I perform in my practice can compare with happiness I feel when I see the smiles on the faces of these young patients when they return for follow up visits. No wonder prisons are so full of Christians and so empty of atheists Im not sure what the Christians in prison argument youve put forth suggests, other than that people break moral laws. I think we agree on that. (I hope you havent taken my argument for objective morality to mean that I think that it is impossible for Christians to break moral laws or that Christians are somehow better people. I certainly do not hold that view.) Why do we throw people in prison in the first place? Because theyve done something wrong. Especially on the web, my favourite font is generally not the typeface youve chosen, not at the size youve used, and [although this gets away from fonts] not in the layout/width youve defined. In print Im more of the Monty Burns school: I know what I hate and I dont hate this! I do find, though, that if a book or website includes a colophon then Ill generally appreciate the choices; I suspect its because anyone who takes the time to write up a blurb about why theyve made a particular choice has obviously put some thought into the final product.

People are raving how funny this movie isWOW! They, too, must be ondrugs. Wes and Scott mustve been high when they accepted to do thisfilm. A waste of two very fine actors! I wanted to like it. Issues like this are interesting. I say that because the control of the banking industry belongs to the United States Senate. The Senate has oversight responsibility. The Senate has Committees (i.e. The Money and Banking Committee) that it has created to do its work. So if this is such a great and grave issue, why arent you holding your elected officials feet to the fire? Why aren’t these elected officials doing their work and fulfilling their oversight responsibility. We need a bill passed that holds the banks/credit unions/lenders/credit card institutions/state government/federal government accountable for the loss of personal information. If the cost of irresponsibility for each person involved was a million dollars, the cost of providing the security would become very reasonable for the institution in question.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

I didnt say that the cost of labor was a driving factor because Im aware that many take that sort of comment negatively. They would rather find blame with other things than admit our workers get paid too much to allow their companies to compete with companies operating in low wage countries. Anyway, theres not a lot we can do about wages, short of getting rid of the unions., so we just have to try to be competitive by focusing our attention on other factors like productivity, innovation, taxes, quality, responsiveness, reliability, etc. Thanks.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

I’ve been surfing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the web will be much more useful than ever before.
